The ACA Remains as America’s Healthcare Law
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, has been a recent hot topic in United States legislature. In early March 2017, House Republicans introduced the American Health Care Act (AHCA) as a budget reconciliation bill to replace the ACA. The AHCA was approved by various House committees, but after several weeks of deliberation, it became apparent that the AHCA would not have enough votes to pass the House. As a result, the Speaker of the House removed the bill from consideration, and the ACA remained as America’s healthcare law.
Since the AHCA was the best option for the Trump Administration to replace the ACA, there was an air of uncertainty for the future of American healthcare. At least for this year, no replacement healthcare legislation appears to be on the horizon, and for now, it seems that the Trump Administration must concede as the ACA remains the de facto healthcare law.
All Previous Rules Still Apply
What this means for employers is that all ACA requirements, penalties, and regulations remain in place. For example, reporting requirements are still the same, and employers must abide by all previous regulations issued by the IRS and Department of Labor.
